Smith Equipment was founded by Elmer Smith in 1916. It's humble design and manufacturing operations are were started in the garage of Elmer in Minneapolis, MN. 

Smith's Watertown operation consists of manufacturing cells for each product line, which incorporate machining, plating, swaging, assembly and testing. Support business cell functions and operations.  Produce premium quality product to meet our customer needs. 

Major Areas of Accountability

Perform work as apparent or assigned.   This might include but is not limited to the following activities:

  • Light assembly of fuel/oxy heating, welding, cutting and regulation products per specifications and prescribed procedures.
  • Set up and operate machines, processes or equipment. 
  • Perform inspections, tests and audits on processes, products and components.  Diagnose faults, conduct repairs, and utilize appropriate measuring, inspection and test equipment and procedures to assure consistency in parts produced.
  • Insure that all parts meet specifications, finishes and special handling requirements utilizing appropriate documentation.
  • Utilize proper storage, handling and disposal methods of all materials, including hazardous material when applicable.
  • Assist in maintaining department supplies and consumables.
  • Supports the department and continuous improvement concepts by suggesting changes and improvements.
  • Keep department and machines clean and orderly, and maintain housekeeping requirements.
  • Perform work in a safe manner by following safety rules and insuring that proper safety equipment is used.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and perform routine maintenance / preventative maintenance on department machines and equipment. 
  • Maintain department records per established procedures.
  • Seeks and recommends ways to eliminate potential quality problems, to improve procedures and methods, and to increase productivity using the Quality Management System (policy, procedure, work instructions).

  • Set goals and targets that support the company, department and assigned tasks.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • No allergies to oils, solvents or solutions.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry and maneuver 50 pounds.
  • Physical ability to stand all day.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cooperative and team oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbal/written) effectively with customers, suppliers and other employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret all applicable blueprints, schematics and diagrams.
