ITW Pro Brands has 3 manufacturing facilities (Olathe, KS, Tucker, GA and DeWitt, IA) and a formulation lab in Carol Stream, IL and employs 250+ individuals.

SUMMARY

The R&D Process Engineer will identify and lead projects to study and improve upon current manufacturing processes to help eliminate variability and reduce complexity while ensuring operations can deliver high quality products to our customers in a timely manner. They will be responsible for ongoing support for Quality, Production, and R&D Chemists across a variety of product lines.

ESSENTIAL  DUTIES

  • Propose product and process design changes that will improve facility safety, processing efficiency & reliability, reduce waste, or to better meet customer performance & delivery expectations at both local and remote manufacturing sites
  • Identifying, qualifying, and managing vendors and external manufacturing partners in collaboration with purchasing and strategic sourcing teams.
  • Ensure proper resolution of manufacturing challenges with scale-up, blending, packaging, stability, or other quality issues that may arise.
  • Assists production and quality for investigating manufacturing abnormalities and conducting root cause analysis for rejected batches of product and presents findings to quality for review/approval prior to making changes.
  • Scales-up successful experimental formulations and writes manufacturing and quality instructions.
  • Evaluates OOS materials and provides guidance for adjustments or rework in consultation with R&D Chemists.
  • Develops, validates, and maintains analytical test methods and instrument calibration processes for use by R&D and QC.
  • Actively supports the Change Control process for making changes to current products or processes.
  • Manages multiple projects/tasks independently or on a team using the 80/20 philosophy.
  • Able to lead a project team from concept through deploy.
  • Actively supports and participates in the site Laboratory Safety and Chemical Hygiene Program.
  • Manages multiple projects/tasks independently or on a team using the 80/20 philosophy.
  • Follows AS9100 Quality Management System as applies to R&D and as defined in the Quality System.
  • Develops and maintains electronic / manual record-keeping systems, as applies to Research and Development.
  • Attends company sponsored training and outside seminars as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Acts in accordance with company policies, procedures and corporate ethics.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or related field with a minimum of 3 years experience working in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Proven record of leading successful manufacturing process improvements.
  • Familiarity with industrial blending operations.

  • Proficiency in basic chemistry, formulation, & manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in performing and interpreting standard analytical testing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
