The Global Tool Unit (GTU) is a part of ITW’s Construction Segment. The GTU innovates, develops, and manufactures best-in-class Power Fastening Systems for the global construction market. Position Summary:

GTU is seeking a Rising Junior, expected graduation dates of Dec 2026-May 2027

The Purchasing Intern is responsible for supporting a consistent inventory of material availability according to the production schedule for the assembly lines in the GTU. This internship will focus on developing and/or executing solutions for making sure materials arrive on the agreed upon dates from the supply chain to the Global Tool Unit’s (GTU) Libertyville IL facility. The internship will run through the summer of 2025.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Participate as a member of the GTU’s Purchasing team in the review meetings of production scheduling.
  • Identify gaps in the GTU’s supply chain that may impact the ability to assemble tools. 
  • Recommend and implement improvements using a systematic approach for follow ups with suppliers.

Expected Learnings:

  • Continual Balancing of Supply-Chain incoming deliveries required for operational needs.
  • Learn general manufacturing processes and participate in projects to review and improve material flow & capacity planning.
  • Learn negotiations skills, process thinking, and able to handle challenging situations.
  • Connection between suppliers, logistics, manufacturing, and business/market needs
  • Ability to work on and communicate with multi-disciplinary teams

Qualifications:

Job Requirements:

  • Pursuing bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration or related.
  • Creative mind committed to timely completion of assignments and thinking outside the box.
  • Capable of working independently in a very fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, climate variances and moving mechanical equipment typically found in a manufacturing environment.  The noise level in the work environment (office) is usually low, but higher when exposed to the manufacturing areas.  Certain personal protective equipment is required when in the manufacturing areas.
