POSITION SUMMARY:Located in Lancaster NY, the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the efficient design and development of standard and custom machines used for production decoration for our United Silicone product line of Industrial Decorating Solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.     Develop mechanical system design solutions for automation based on engineering principals

2.     Provide technical support to external and internal customers

3.     Responsible for project success whether project leader or as part of a project team

4.     Ensure all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed for all work completed

5.     Support sales team in pre-sales technical concept, budgeting activities, and quote creation

6.     Interpret client requirements, identify, and address design parameters and engineering problems and ensure solutions are implemented accurately and in budget

7.     Plan, concept, and design complex automated systems – including product handling, sensing, process, inspection, etc.  Hand loaded and automated load systems including – dials, in-line shuttles, standalone with fixture actuation.

8.     Analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations supporting design including FEA, time study, and sequence of operation.

9.     Create accurate Bill of Materials.

10.  Create machine user manuals and customer documentation.

11.  Mechanical design of customized solutions including sizing of motors and pneumatic devices.

12.  Support manufacture build and validation of systems.

13.  Maintain accurate records and files according to quality standard.

14.  Participate in both FAT (Factory Acceptance) and SAT (Site Acceptance) of customized products and systems onsite and at customer facilities.

15.  Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering preferred. Minimum Associates/technical degree with equivalent technical experience and demonstrated competence; additional post-graduate education may contribute toward the desired years of experience; typically requires 3+ years of significant engineering and operational experience to meet the skills and responsibilities of the position.

Experience/Skills: 

1.     3-5 years controls and electrical design experience on custom automation preferred. Experience in electrical, pneumatic and panel design required. (SolidWorks Electrical strongly preferred, if not, AutoCAD Electrical required.)

2.     Proficient in SolidWorks software, MS Office, Project Management Software experience a plus but not required.

3.     Strong fundamental knowledge of mechanical design and its application in automation industrial designs including specification or motors, gear, mechanical systems, pneumatics, robotic and vacuum systems.

4.     Efficiently organize and plan work tasks to meet company goals

5.     Demonstrated strong creative problem solving, self-motivation, multi-tasking, communications (written and verbal), technical writing skills and a team player.

6.     Ability to travel overnight (<25%) to support installation and troubleshooting at customer site.

1.     While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, sit and type, occasionally twist/turn, reach above shoulder and outward, stand, walk, bend, grasp with hands on a regular, daily basis and lift, stretch, and squat throughout the day.

2.     Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

3.     Specific vision abilities required by this job include concentrated attention, close vision, far vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to bring object into sharp focus.
