POSITION SUMMARY: To build and provide service and technical support for standard and large, complex automation machine systems both in-house and in the field.

Pay range: $27.00-37.00/hr


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build complex automated standalone machines as well as large automations with multiple station systems including feeder systems, robotics, etc.
  • Assist in rough conceptualization to build machines and tooling. Occasionally build low level automations and fixtures with little to no engineering support.
  • Conceptualize, improvise and modify parts to complete build of a machine system.
  • Test and troubleshoot system including very basic printing. Know tooling & fixtures and how they affect print quality.    
  • Tear down and refurbish existing systems. Clean, replace parts, adjust, etc
  • As required, perform Project Management of machine building portion of project, working with Engineering, Sales, Parts, and software system to ensure machine building tasks are done on-time and per schedule. Check regularly to ensure needed parts are on-hand, drawings are ready, customer specs are being met, and input data to ensure system is updated (WO’s, SO’s, etc.).
  • Design and manufacture safety guarding for automation machines.
  • Work closely with customer, Sales, Engineering during customer acceptance testing. This includes communication, system testing, troubleshooting. Provide good customer service.
  • Service or install machine systems at customer sites. Travel overnight occasionally and as required. Troubleshoot electrical systems wiring as required.
  • Provide technical phone support to customer maintenance staff as necessary.
  • Advise and recommend mfg. process and procedure improvements to management.
  • Travel occasionally to customer sites as required to install, re-test, or repair machines.
  • Perform basic electrical wiring or troubleshooting to fix problems at customer sites.
  • Train builders. Train customer operators and maintenance staff.
  • Write basic reports of trips and/or meetings with customers.
  • Work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Maintains focus on continuous improvement by applying 80/20, PLS, and USa principles/techniques and makes process improvement recommendations to management

Qualifications:

Education:  Technical/vocational school certificate or associates degree or equivalent experience in mechanical/pneumatic assembly or repair. Electrical and/or electronic training a plus..

Experience/Skills: 

  • 4-5 years industrial automation machine assembly including strong mechanical, pneumatic testing and debugging. Electrical and pneumatic controls knowledge required. Must have two years proven experience with large complex automations and ability to conceptualize automation machine designs.
  • Field Service experience required. Must have basic electrical wiring/testing experience. Experience with most varieties of hand and power tools.  Exposure to SolidWorks.
  • 3-4 years experience machining and/or Toolmaking. Work with close tolerances +- .001”
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Good communication skills required to follow direction, work in a team, and discuss machine concepts with customers. Project management experience preferred.
  • Basic personal computer skills required

Physical/Visual Activities or Demands: Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will constantly (67% - 100%) be required to twist/turn, stand, walk, and grasp, and frequently (34% - 66%) be required to bend/squat, crawl, handle and manipulate small items. They will occasionally (1% - 33%) be required to climb, reach above shoulder, reach outward, sit, and type.
  2. The employee must carry up to 75 pounds constantly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and use safe lifting methods to move100 pounds occasionally. The employee must push and pull up to 10 pounds constantly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include concentrated attention, close vision, far vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to bring object into sharp focus. 
  4. Manual dexterity; arm-hand steadiness; ability to quickly make precise adjustments in moving the controls of a machine; finger dexterity; multi-limb coordination; flexibility; quick reaction time.

Mental Requirements:
