Position Summary:

As a key member of the IT team, the Network Administrator will report to the IT Manager, and you will also be part of a team of IT professionals who install, proactively administer and support infrastructure for a location that may contain both office and manufacturing environments of roughly 100+ users.  The Network Administrator’s role is to support end users and their computer software and hardware needs, maintain the data network, Active Directory, servers, VMware, endpoints, and all supporting infrastructure in order to provide a fast, secure, and reliable network for our gold systems and critical business applications.  Data integrity, redundancy and understanding security vulnerabilities as it pertains to IT throughout the business and sister locations is paramount.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage own helpdesk ticket queue, to work and resolve issues with Windows-based, servers, Active Directory, data network, printers, copiers, phones, O365 applications, and business applications.
  • In conjunction with peer team members, proactively build, maintain and administer data networks, Active Directory, end-point protection systems, servers, phone system, site security systems, etc., utilizing Best Practices and proper administration techniques.
  • Partner with peer team members to ensure network perimeter and Internet-facing servers are secure from cyber threats.
  • Research and recommend new tools and technologies to simplify administration and improve efficiencies.
  • Manage inventory of computing and networking assets, ensuring manual, physical inventory matches inventory in various automated systems (Active Directory, asset management system, end-point protection portal, etc.)
  • Maintain and enforce hardware, software, and security standards.
  • Interface between end users and ITW IT service offerings (e.g. O365, Teams, SharePoint, Vulnerability Scanning, Endpoint protection, etc.)
  • Manage phone system, provide end user documentation/training where necessary, and assist with mobile phone devices as needed.
  • Manage backups of the server environment, perform necessary restores, and lead effort in restore testing.
    • Lead and manage Local Information Technology Disaster Recovery Plan.
    • Support Video Conference equipment and assist end users with usage/training.
    • Lead periodic audits of software, security, inventory, users, phone system.
  • Analyze system logs and identify potential issues with computer systems.  Introduce and integrate new technologies into existing data center environments.  Perform routine audits of systems and software.  Apply operating system updates, patches and configuration changes.  Add, remove or update user account information, reset passwords, etc.  Answer technical queries.  Responsible for documenting the configuration of the system.  System performance tuning.
  • Maintain a secure computing environment, and monitoring systems for unauthorized access.  Acquire and install hardware systems and software updates ensuring proper function of the systems.  Maintain service warranties to support systems.  Monitor networks for potential issues. Ensure backups (Veeam) are operating on all systems.  Follow all established company policies, procedures, and industry best practices as required.
  • Support the activities of the IT and general business user community.  Conduct knowledge transfers/internal staff training on new software and technical processes and serve as an internal consultant for computer systems related projects and issues.  Participates in special projects, as needed, including personal computer system hardware upgrades and deployment of equipment into the computer system environment.

Job Requirements:

  • Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to possession of a bachelor's degree in computer science, information engineering or other related areas.
  • Microsoft, VMware, Veeam expertise beneficial but not required.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server, Active Directory, Veeam and VMware.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience providing advanced computer technical support.
  • 4+ years of experience supporting technologies including phone systems, O365 applications, data network, virtual networks, end-point protection, and helpdesk ticketing systems, Firewalls (and rules) and vulnerability remediation
  • Good understanding of pertinent computing and network protocols and technologies including, but not limited to, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, RDP, FTP, HTTP(S), SMTP, SSH, and Telnet.
  • This position is based out of Hi-Cone’s Itasca, IL office.
  • 5-10% travel may be required
