Quality Support Specialist

This position is based within Instron’s UK Quality Department and will be located at our European headquarters in High Wycombe, UK.

Responsible for ensuring that final products meet established quality standards, proposing measures to correct or improve standards, providing comprehensive support to other company functions and providing administrative support to the Quality function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-shipment audits on Machine & Retrofit products to ensure that quality standards are maintained and installation problems prevented. To identify regular issues and follow-up with Operations management to ensure that effective preventive actions are taken.
  • Administer the systems for Manufacturing specification waivers & non-conformities, monitoring their resolution and producing reports.
  • Administer the system for calibrated equipment used throughout the facility and ensure that equipment owners adhere to company policies.
  • Responsible for administering the Quality management system document change requests and document change notices, liaising with document owners to ensure that documents are relevant, current and fit for purpose.
  • Assist with ISO9001 assessments carried out by the external assessment authority or customers.
  • Carry out internal audits in accordance with the requirements of ISO9001.
  • Create, maintain & distribute Quality performance metrics and other critical key performance indicators.
  • Prepare data to support the Quality metrics, Quality Map, Serial No. tracker database & China certificates of conformity to ensure that data is current, relevant and available for users when required.
  • Issue agendas and prepare data for regular Quality meetings – Level 3, Top 10, Quality Map, Quality Management review.
  • Monitor overdue Quality issues & follow-up with owners to ensure early resolution.
  • Provide support to Sales in answering queries relating to all sections of the company and, where necessary, to carry out training of company personnel.

Key Competencies

  • High level of PC literacy - fully conversant with MS Office suite with advance level knowledge of Excel (including pivot tables & macros)
  • High level of literacy and attention to detail. Ability to identify mistakes in documentation and deviations from processes.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to analyse data, identify issues/errors and present data in a meaningful way.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work as an effective part of a team and with people at all levels of the company
  • Well-organised, systematic and analytical
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Self-motivated & ability to work with minimum supervision

Key Experiences 

  • 2–3 years work experience in a Quality or Manufacturing environment

  • A working knowledge of ISO9001 requirements and experience of conducting internal audits to the ISO9001 standard would be particularly advantageous.


  • HNC/HND in an Engineering, Technical, Manufacturing or Quality subject.
