Responsible for defining, measuring, analysing, improving and controlling the production processes of Instron’s Transducer products using safe and economic manufacturing techniques.

  • Managing and leading production process improvement projects from defining the problem to implementing changes and controls to ensure performance gains do not degrade over time.
  • Promoting the use of the ITW 80/20 methodologies to further improve the efficiency of the business, with specific emphasis in using Understand Simplify and act (USa) projects.
  • Ensuring compliance to the health and safety legislation.  This includes carrying out risk assessments, specifying and maintaining appropriate safety procedures.
  • Carrying out product sourcing decisions based on achieving best economic case.
  • Identifying and implementing cost improvement opportunities. These include improvements to procedures, processes, products and operating methods.  
  • Input of experience and knowledge to new product development teams ensuriong that products are developed in a timely manner, meet cost objectives and are efficiently introduced into manufacture.
  • Design and manufacture and commissioning of test equipment on the shop-floor and at subcontractors.
  • The justification and implementation of major capital investment.
  • Carry out training of manufacturing personnel where necessary on new equipment, tooling or products and support further after implementation with technical advice.
  • Recommendation of items for inclusion into the long-term strategic plan.  This should include major capital investments & suggestions on growing the business.
  • Research and introduce ways of reducing product lead-times.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of and contribute to:
    - cost accountancy & company costing systems
    - the company’s production control system.
    - the company’s quality management.
    - the company’s document and problem management system.


  • Qualified to B.Eng. level in a suitable engineering subject
  • Process engineering qualification desirable


  • High level problem solving abilities
  • A “state of the art” knowledge of methods and tools used to improve control of production processes.
  • Electromechanical design knowledge
  • Knowledge of project management tools and methodologies
  • Highly motivated with good team working skills. 
  • Ability to work with people at all levels of the company.
  • A working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation as it relates to their responsibilities.
  • A knowledge of manufacturing methods and technology including production equipment, manufacturing and design processes.
  • Knowledge of tools praticises and principles used to improve production line effeciencies


Appropriate experience in using process engineering to manage projects to solve problems and improve process on a production line with minimal supervision.
