Maintenance Engineer

Working as part of a team to carry out planned and preventative maintenance within the production department. Providing support for troubleshooting quality issues and breakdowns. Working with experienced toolmakers to assist the day-to-day operation and communicating effectively across the work floor. Based on continued investment on site this is an important role to support the business vision and strategy moving forward.

Qualifications:

Responsibilities:

  • Competently carry out general maintenance, installations, and repairs to all equipment on site both planned and preventative.
    • Presses.
    • Forklifts.
    • Decoilers.
    • Lift Tables.
    • Work alongside mechanical resource, including toolmakers and fitter.
  • Overtime call out duties where required.
  • Support the Continuous Improvement Manager where required with working alongside third party contractors.
  • Liaise with production / toolroom teams over machine breakdowns to prioritize repairs.
  • Liaise with production / toolroom teams to inform them of progress of breakdowns and project work.
  • Ensure maximum uptime and minimum downtime of all operations.
  • Effectively manage break-down and/or failure of equipment and plant by taking appropriate remedial action in the following areas: automation, mechanical, Hydraulics and Pneumatics.
  • Carry out a safe system of work for Predictive, Preventative and Planned Maintenance as required.
  • Support factory operatives in troubleshooting machine issues/faults.
  • Working with equipment such as lathes /milling machines /drilling machine / wire cutter / hand tools for bench work
  • Learning to examine and determine sizes and allowances of metals and metals alloys.
  • Examining and understanding detailed drawings or specifications to determine requirements of material and equipment.
  • Responding to breakdowns and providing diagnostic support and repairs as required.
  • Maintaining records for planned and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure project delivery objectives are met in collaboration with electrical and maintenance colleagues.
  • Participation in Project Engineering including:
    • Automation.
    • Press & New asset installations.
    • Press maintenance.

Health & Safety

  • Ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in your working area (6s)
  • Actively participate in H&S initiatives and events
  • Ensure all guarding and safety equipment is in place and used when needed.
  • Personal protective equipment to be worn when required including safety glasses, steel toe cap boots etc.
  • Report all health and safety or maintenance issues.
  • Ensure health and safety requirements are met and understand all relevant safety regulations.
  • Follow site H&S procedures and safe systems of works.

Experience and skills:

  • This role requires a high level of accuracy.
  • Knowledge of power press and progressive die stamping operations preferred.
  • Strong proven experience in working in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Interest in engineering, mechanical, programming and/or metalwork.
  • Technical, practical, and mathematical skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Experience working alongside contractors.
  • Experience with preventative planned maintenance and TPM systems.
  • Higher / Advanced Highers and/or HNC / HND qualifications in relevant subjects.
  • Motivated individual who is flexible and willing to learn continuous best practice.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and positive attitude.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and attention to detail skills
  • Comfortable in being able within a team environment, contributing and sharing best practices, resources, and ideas in order to continually improve.
  • The ability to work to set standards and procedures.
