Electric Power Systems Technician

Primary Object: 

To apply knowledge and skills of electric power systems theory, operation, construction, testing and measurement to the development, manufacture, and troubleshooting of MTS electric motors, inverters, and control circuits.  An individual will be focused on manufacturing-oriented activities.

Major Areas of Accountability:

1.     Manufactures and performs functional tests on standard and custom electric motors, inverters, and control circuits utilizing engineering prints, 3-D CAD models, circuit schematics, work instructions and standard department procedures.

2.     Utilizes resources to troubleshoot and solve problems in manufacture caused by design, documentation, processes, materials, and equipment.  These resources include, but are not limited to knowledge, peers, senior technician(s), literature, production team lead (PTL), or manufacturing engineer(s).

3.     Maintains manufacturing records and process documentation, including program-specific manufacturing records, process instructions, and identifying changes to engineering prints.

4.     Provides technical support in new product development and continuous improvement projects.

  • Builds prototypes with limited documentation

  • Resolves technical issues as appropriate for the project, i.e. layout, wiring, fixtures, etc.

  • Determines processes and techniques to maximize quality, accuracy, and efficiency

  • Recommends fixtures and assist in their design

  • Identifies process and equipment constraints, recommend, and implement solutions

  • Estimates operation times

5.     Designs, manages, performs, and documents electric power system related engineering experiments.

6.     Provides technical support to other departments including support on special electrical power system integration or manufacturing projects, prototype products, or electrical power system training.

7.     Maintains open lines of communication with PTL, Operations Manager, Manufacturing Engineer, peers, and interdependent departments.  Keeps Operation Manager and team members informed of progress, problems, and changes in products and processes.  Effectively communicate design and process improvement ideas and concerns about personal development, scheduling, product quality, and morale.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proof of the legal right to work in the USA without sponsorship
  • Education:  AA degree, 2-year Vo-Tech certificate, or equivalent military training in Electronics or Mechanics OR 4-years relevant technical experience including electromechanical assembly, soldering, and small-scale or precision manufacturing
  • Experience: 5 years of assembly technician experience
  • Travel Requirements:  Up to 10%

Preferred Qualifications: MTS assembly technician experience and/or serving various needs and goals of engineering, design, manufacturing, & business areas.

Familiarity and/or experience with the following:

  • Electro-mechanical system theory, functional testing, troubleshooting & testing methods. 
  • MTS-specific electric power system products, their uses & manufacturing methods
  • Experimental methods
  • Electro-mechanical technologies
  • Electrical schematics
  • Wire routing & layout
  • High voltage machine component handling
  • Magnetic materials
  • Effective soldering technique
  • Electrical & mechanical measurement
  • Controllers and data acquisition
  • Basic product quality
