The bodymaker operator is responsible for the operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of the cupper/ bodymaker and related machinery in the bodymaker cell. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Communicate with operators from previous shifts regarding issues related to production and cupper/body maker. 
  • Start, stop, and clear jams in the bodymaker, cupper, and trimmer. 
  • Complete coil changes as needed including the preparation of coils and operation of the coil handling equipment. 
  • Conduct can checks, including visual can checks, every 15 minutes. 
  • Record dimensional measurements hourly accurately and timely.  
  • Prepare and monitor the soluble system. 
  • Check and complete setups/alignments on all related equipment. 
  • Manage the maintenance of equipment in the area including the replacement of mats and belts, removal and replacement of bushings and bearings as appropriate, and removal and rebuild of pneumatic and hydraulic pumps. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed 

Qualifications:

 

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent required.  
  • Previous experience operating Stolle or Standun bodymakers preferred. 3-5 years machine operation, troubleshooting, hydraulics, presswork, and inspection/SPC required. 
  • Ability to read blueprints, use precision gauges, and work unsupervised is required. 
  • Ability to lift boxes, tooling, and other objects over 50 pounds. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including possessing the ability to convey information clearly and work collaboratively well with others. 
  • Flexible to work overtime when necessary
  • Demonstrate knowledge concerning general safety protocol and procedures regarding field operations.
  • Ability to work independently, manage projects and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Self-starter; works with minimal supervision; capable of offering up and making decisions.
  • Effective oral, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Team-player with aptitude to learn the ITW culture and work within a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain keen vision and mental awareness while practicing careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members to support troubleshooting, problem solving, root cause analysis, and related process improvement activities.
