Technical Service Lab Technician

Performs laboratory duties in preparing materials for testing, shows, and demonstrations. Perform testing on coatings, adhesives, and sealants for characterization and customer materials.  Assists in cost savings, manufacturing, and finished goods troubleshooting. Supports and/or completes laboratory tasks to meet Technical Services and division goals. Collaborates with other departments in support of ITW Polymers Adhesives strategic growth initiatives and ITW Enterprise Strategy.

·         As planned and directed by the Engineer(s), prepare test specimen and perform testing of adhesives, adhesively bonded products, sealants, coatings and abrasion resistant materials.

·         Practice scientific principles and methods.

·         Cooperates with coworkers to order and maintain all laboratory supplies including reagents, chemicals, testing substrates, and instruments tools/supplies.

·         Operates testing instruments per manufacturer’s instructions to generate mechanical and analytical data as determined by industry standards.

·         Schedules, coordinates, and maintains all laboratory preventative maintenance and calibrations.

·         Adjusts and creates standard and non-standard test programs in mechanical and analytical laboratory instruments.

·         Runs experiments and records data preformed on manufactured batches.

·         Provides a biweekly inspection audit report of the TS lab for safety and organization.

·         Answers incoming calls seeking fundamental technical advice

·         Promotes, supports and adheres to all safety, environmental and quality related policies and procedures.

·         Assists in maintaining all laboratory SDSs.

·         Occasional travel to customers on site applications

Qualifications:

·         Associates Degree in a technical program preferred, chemical engineering, polymer     science, polymer engineering,  OR equivalent discipline and 3 or more years of related industry work experience.

·         Highly skilled in operating laboratory instrumentation and common tools.

· Hands-on working skills good at observing changes and drawing logical conclusions.

·         Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office.

·         Experience with PC-integrated lab instruments & controls.

·         Strong communication, organizational, and investigative skills.

·         Ability to effectively multitask and drive assignments to completion.

·         Grasp of fundamental lab practices, lab & project organization, and understanding of material relationships.
