2nd shift hours are 3:00p-11:30pm; 3rd shift hours are 11:00pm to 7:30am.  Starting pay based on applicable experience.  We provide opportunity for pay and skill advancement through our operator level program, and a safety-first work environment. 

The primary responsibility of this position is to efficiently set-up, operate, troubleshoot, and monitor seven-station gravure printing presses. Perform changeovers, quality testing, and continuous monitoring of press and product. Meet safety, quality, quantity, scrap, and delivery requirements.

Essential Job Duties

  • Independently set up, operate and adjust all functions of seven-station gravure printing press, meeting departmental scrap, uptime, and related goals.
  • Follow all documentation procedures including Shop Floor log, quality system and troubleshooting.
  • Perform data entry and operate computer console to set up press, inventory, track orders, scrap, etc.
  • Review customer order to verify job data and footage needed per report, clarify discrepancies and ensure required job cylinders, solvents and inks are in inventory. Check press schedules and inventory to ensure deliveries can be met. Discuss necessary adjustments with manager.
  • Review run sheets to ensure proper cylinders are available and set up for job change.
  • Perform changeovers including removal of previous job cylinders from press, store in proper location and drain inks. Check cylinder sizes, load cylinders in press, check ink viscosity, adjust as needed and pour in ink fountain. Load bulk rolls on unwind stand and prepare roll.
  • Remove and install cylinders in press, as needed.  Inspect cylinders being removed for damage.
  • Obtain start-up sheets and perform all tests prescribed by the product specification.
  • Prepare RDS paperwork and documentation when running outside operating conditions.
  • Ensure end-of-roll samples and testing is performed and results properly documented.
  • Interact with Color Match Department in making shader adds.
  • Monitor web and identify product defects. Take preventive and corrective action. Troubleshoot and diagnose complex print problems (such as streaks, ink splash, web alignment, slitting, and registration) and take corrective action to maintain product quality.
  • Meet production and scrap goals, ensuring product matches customer specifications.
  • Understand quality system procedures and do QC testing as necessary.
  • Work in a safe manner, following all safety procedures. Regularly test for static electricity.
  • Assist with general machine maintenance, replacing doctor blade holders, adjusting tension and web guides and hose replacement. Notify maintenance as necessary for other repairs.
  • Document all troubleshooting procedures for future reference.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED.  Gravure printing press experience preferred, including the ability to identify and troubleshoot equipment, product, and quality issues.
  • Ability to push/pull 90-100 lbs. and lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to use Forklift, hoists, and other material handling equipment. Required forklift certification.
  • Ability to wear respirator periodically for specific job tasks (half-mask or hood style).
  • 1-2 years’ experience using common hand tools to adjust and troubleshoot machines and tape measures. Some machine operation experience preferred.
  • Self-motivated, able to follow directions, and work with minimal supervision. Ability to work flexible shifts.
  • Good verbal communication skills to interact with other departments, write business notes, read product specifications, schedules, etc.
  • Some computer/keyboard experience preferred to include data entry and lookups.
